The government has decided to establish a special protection unit for Chinese nationals in Islamabad, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced during his official visit to China. The decision came after an important meeting with China’s Minister of Public Security, Wang Xiaohong, in Beijing. This initiative highlights Pakistan’s efforts to further strengthen security cooperation with its long-standing strategic partner.
During the meeting, both ministers discussed enhancing counter-terrorism cooperation and improving police training programs. They agreed to hold joint working group meetings every three months. The interior ministers will also meet annually to assess progress and plan future strategies. China welcomed Pakistan’s current security arrangements and praised its efforts to protect Chinese citizens and development projects.
Naqvi emphasized that the safety of Chinese nationals and projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a top priority. He assured that Pakistan has taken strong measures to reduce risks and provide a secure environment for Chinese workers.
The ministers also agreed to strengthen rapid-response mechanisms against terrorism and crime. They planned to expand intelligence sharing and exchange expertise between their law enforcement agencies. China acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in combating terrorism and appreciated its commitment to internal security.
Cybercrime was another key topic. Naqvi said Pakistan seeks Chinese support, including advanced AI-based technologies, to boost the capacity of the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA). Both sides agreed that technology and training are crucial to counter modern security threats.
The meeting also covered Islamabad-Beijing sister-city collaboration and joint police training programs. Naqvi invited Wang to visit Pakistan. Wang extended an invitation for Naqvi to attend the Global Security Cooperation Forum in China later this year. Both leaders reaffirmed that Pakistan and China are strategic partners and committed to cooperation at all levels.
This step marks a significant effort to protect Chinese citizens and strengthen Pakistan-China ties. It also demonstrates Pakistan’s dedication to creating a safe environment for international projects, ensuring mutual trust, and fostering long-term collaboration.
