Islamabad NGO Animal Shelter Sealed on AC’s Orders

Islamabad authorities sealed Strays Home Animal Rescue, a registered NGO in Sector D-13, after receiving complaints from nearby residents. Assistant Commissioner Yasir Nazir ordered the action on Friday. As a result, police arrested shelter staff and veterinarians, leaving hundreds of rescued animals trapped inside without food or medical care.

Inside the shelter, many animals were already sick, injured, or disabled. Some needed help even to pass urine, and without care, they faced life-threatening risks. Although the shelter had a valid NOC since 2024, police still registered a case against the staff. They accused them of spreading disease, neglecting animals, and creating a nuisance in the area.

On Saturday, the workers appeared before court. Then, the judge granted them bail, and the shelter was reopened. However, authorities still pressured the NGO to shut down operations and vacate the building within seven days.

According to one of the AC’s staff members, locals filed an application complaining that the animals created bad smells and disturbed their sleep at night. Based on this, the AC moved forward with the sealing order.

This case shows a sharp conflict. On one side, the shelter rescued abandoned and injured animals. On the other, residents demanded relief from smell and noise. For now, the future of Strays Home remains uncertain, while the animals depend on the decisions made in the coming days.
