Anthropic to Provide Claude AI to U.S. Government Agencies for $1

In a move aimed at speeding up the adoption of artificial intelligence in public administration, Anthropic will make its Claude AI chatbot available to all three branches of the U.S. government for a token price of $1 per agency for the next year. The arrangement, secured through the General Services Administration’s OneGov program, reflects growing competition among major AI companies to secure a foothold in federal operations. The offer covers both Claude for Government and Claude for Enterprise.

The government-focused platform is certified to the FedRAMP High standard, allowing it to handle sensitive but non-classified tasks, while the enterprise version provides expanded tools and capabilities. Agencies will also receive integration support to ensure the technology fits seamlessly into their workflows.

Federal officials say the rollout supports the White House’s AI Action Plan and is part of a larger effort to upgrade efficiency across government services. GSA leaders have hailed the deal as an example of adopting AI “with ambition, accountability, and speed.”

Anthropic’s chief executive, Dario Amodei, stressed that sustaining U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence depends on giving government institutions access to the most advanced and secure systems available.Claude’s addition to the GSA’s roster of approved AI providers follows similar listings for OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.

OpenAI recently introduced the same $1-per-agency pricing for its ChatGPT Enterprise within the executive branch. Industry observers note that such low-cost entry offers are a well-known strategy in enterprise software encouraging widespread use before transitioning to long-term contracts. Experts also suggest that early adoption of AI in government could influence how technology policies and regulations evolve in the future.
