Pakistan’s Parliament House to deploy “Rat-Eater” cats to combat growing Rodent infestation

CDA Allocates Rs1.2 Million to Address Rat Problem in Senate and National Assembly Departments

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has allocated Rs1.2 million for a unique initiative to combat the increasing rat infestation in Parliament House. This move involves the deployment of hunting cats, commonly referred to as “rat-eaters,” chosen specifically to address the escalating rodent problem.

The rodent population has been steadily rising, causing significant damage within the building. The rats, believed to be nesting in infested ceilings, have reportedly been gnawing on important files, disrupting operations in both the Senate and National Assembly departments.

In response to this growing issue, the CDA plans to introduce special mesh traps alongside the deployment of the cats. Additionally, the authority is enlisting private sector expertise to ensure the effectiveness of this rodent control strategy.

This proactive approach reflects the urgency of addressing the infestation before it leads to more severe damage within the legislative premises.
