UNRWA: Israel Blocking Aid as Gaza Faces Confirmed Famine, 6,000 Trucks of Supplies Stalled

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued an urgent warning that Israel is blocking the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, where famine has now been officially declared.
According to UNRWA, Israel blocks warehouses full of food, medicine, and hygiene supplies in Jordan and Egypt, keeping over 6,000 aid trucks from entering Gaza.

Famine Officially Declared in Gaza

UN officials confirmed famine conditions in parts of Gaza City after weeks of growing malnutrition and starvation related deaths.
UNRWA said it has the supplies and logistics to respond; however, Israel’s blockade prevents deliveries.

“Warehouses hold food and medicine ready to move, yet crossings stay closed. This is a man-made catastrophe,” UNRWA stated, urging Israel to allow immediate access.

UNRWA says famine is confirmed in Gaza City while warehouses full of food, medicine, and supplies remain blocked at border crossings.

6,000 Trucks Stalled at Borders

The aid blockade has created an unprecedented backlog: Jordan and Egypt warehouses are packed with food parcels, water purification tablets, medical kits, and hygiene supplies. 6,000 fully loaded trucks remain on standby, unable to cross into Gaza, Israeli forces tightly control the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings, halting or delaying most shipments indefinitely. As a result,   humanitarian groups warn that each day of delay worsens conditions for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, most of whom are entirely dependent on aid.

Humanitarian Crisis at Breaking Point

Since the escalation of conflict in October 2023,The conflict destroyed power, water, and healthcare systems, leaving them near total collapse. According to UN data: Child malnutrition has surged, with thousands facing life-threatening hunger, Fuel and supply shortages force hospitals to operate at a fraction of capacity, Food prices have skyrocketed, making even basic items unattainable for most families.

In Gaza, extreme heat intensifies the famine and humanitarian shortages, forcing children to spend hours searching for food and clean water.

“Starvation is not a natural disaster it’s a deliberate outcome of restricted access,” said a UN humanitarian coordinator, calling for international pressure to lift the blockade.

Growing International Condemnation

Global leaders and human rights organizations have increasingly criticized Israel’s restrictions, accusing it of using starvation as a weapon of war. However, diplomatic efforts to secure sustained humanitarian corridors have so far failed. The United Nations and aid agencies continue to appeal for: Immediate humanitarian access through all border crossings, International monitoring of aid deliveries to ensure transparency, Urgent funding for emergency operations to prevent a wider famine.

A Man Made Catastrophe

UNRWA’s warning highlights the severity of Gaza’s humanitarian collapse, framing it as a crisis that could be prevented if aid routes are opened.Despite warehouses brimming with supplies, closed borders keep Gaza’s population suffering, highlighting the devastating consequences of prolonged conflict and blockade.

“This is not about resources. This is about access,” UNRWA stressed. “Without immediate action, famine will spread, and thousands more lives will be lost.”
