IMF Delegation Arrives in Pakistan for Governance and Corruption Review

A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived in Pakistan to conduct a detailed review of governance and corruption-related issues. The team will begin its meetings with Pakistani officials on Monday, focusing on providing technical assistance to enhance the country’s reform capacity. The discussions will center on improving governance structures, addressing corruption concerns, and strengthening Pakistan’s overall economic framework.

According to sources, the IMF delegation will assess budget proposals for the fiscal year 2025-26 and engage in follow-up negotiations regarding technical support for governance reforms. Key areas of focus include increasing tax revenue, managing government expenditure, and finalizing budgetary proposals in consultation with the Ministry of Finance. The upcoming federal budget is scheduled to be presented in the National Assembly during the first week of June.

The IMF has recently acknowledged Pakistan’s fiscal policy measures, particularly in reducing public debt, controlling inflation, and promoting tax equity. The organization also approved a $1.3 billion arrangement last month as part of a 37-month bailout program, highlighting Pakistan’s progress in stabilizing its economy. As the IMF delegation conducts its review, the outcomes of these discussions could play a crucial role in shaping Pakistan’s future economic policies and financial stability.
