KP apex committee decides disarmament in Kurram

Apex committee meeting Chaired by CM Ali Amin to eliminate bunker in Kurram

On Friday, the KP apex committee resolved to eliminate all bunkers in Kurram to ensure peace in the area. The district mostly faces law and order situations due to terrible tribal clashes. The provincial government guarantees that the situation will normalize if the armed groups surrender heavy weapons.

The apex committee includes senior civil and military leadership and members of provincial cabinet. The divisional officials and district administration were also part of the committee. Moreover, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi attended this special meeting.

Today, Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur chaired meeting of the apex committee. He took decision to “dismantle all bunkers in Kurram and remove heavy weapons”. He added, “Lasting peace is not possible without the eradication of bunkers and weapons.”

Earlier this month, CM ordered security forces to confiscate from residents and eliminate bunkers from Kurram, area bordering Afghanistan. The members of jirga are also making efforts for the permanent peace of the Kurram district. They are holding discussions with warring tribes to make path for peace to prevail.

From last months, many people are wounded, killed and displaced during these clashes. Residents are complaining about the shortage of food and medicines in the far-off areas of the district, Kurram. The committee also resolved to provide medicines and other essentials during road blockage. It said that all routes would be open after the removal of arms.

In addition, the provincial government urged, “The federal government should take steps to establish peace and order in the province.” Though Interior Minister communicated the determination of the government to restore stability in Kurram.

The purpose of this meeting to examine the situation in Kurram and to take measures to the related matters. During the meeting, CM Gandapur and Interior Minister paid special tribute to the security officers who lost their lives in combating terrorism. Both the federal and provincial governments agreed on collaboration to face the challenging situation of the area.
